Damien's Quest Part 1
Apr. 21st, 2008 02:40 am*Note: As I was writing this, I realized that I didn't take nearly enough pictures, so this particular post (and the rest of the posts in the series) will be text heavy. Next series, there will be a much better dialog/pic ratio. On the other hand, this really is the first time you're meeting Damien and Dyane, so I wanted to make sure you got a good feel for who they are, so the text is pretty much necessary.
Prologue

Damien had never been in love before. He didn't know how it felt, didn't know how it tasted. When he'd first seen her, she didn't strike him as anything special. She wasn't stunning like so many of the women he'd been with. She was cute, yes. Cute and average. At first glance, he figured they had little to nothing in common. She was blond, he liked red-heads; he found that they tended to live up to their fiery and lusty reputations. She was short, only 5'2". He liked 5'6" or so. She wore glasses, not contacts, which meant she wasn't vain, that at least was a plus. But he wasn't really into glasses. He was into casual relationships, not commitment. She looked like a low maintenance woman and god help him, he liked the drama of a good high maintenance woman. Most importantly, however, she was married to his best friend Tristan, and while drama was somewhat exciting, he had no place in his life for that kind of drama. That was before he held her in his arms and looked into her eyes.
He didn't know how it happened, or when. He'd been at their wedding and while she had been stunning in her wedding dress, she wasn't stunning enough to make him take her seriously. She wasn't a woman to him, she was his best friend's wife and that made her a virtual non-person. Time had passed and he found himself thinking of her more and more. Destiny seemed to keep throwing them in each other's paths. And every time he saw her with her husband, he felt a need to get uncharacteristically drunk though he still didn't know why. He didn't want to think about it, didn't want to understand. Something told him it would be a very bad idea indeed to look at his feelings too closely.

Dyane had noticed Damien from the very first moment she met him, but she knew she wasn't in his league. She'd seen the kind of women he typically hooked up with. Darkness Falls had more than its fair share of beautiful women and she knew she was barely a blip on the radar in comparison. He barely glanced in her direction even on the best of days. Over time, he'd become a familiar and comfortable fixture in their household, something you see every day and begin to take for granted. She loved her husband, but his work took him away from her more often than not. At first, it wasn't so bad, but as time wore on, it began to take it's toll, leaving her lonely and vulnerable. She filled her days with work and her nights and weekends hanging out with friends, and that was how she ended up spending more and more time around Damien, getting to know him better.
